Free Choice ( Being Contagious )
Being sick is just HORRIBLEE , I HATEEEEE being sick , I can't sleep , I keep coughing and every time I cough my heart hurts, When I sneeze my head hearts , I can't breathe through my nose because it stuffy so I have to breathe through my mouth. I can not taste my food ,I'm just eating because I am hungry. I was in the hospital for two days when I really wanted to be in school, the hospital was fun though , I had many visitors and I watched tv and of course I asked questions. I just wish I can stop being sick and just become normal again because I am not liking this at all.I have lost my voice in like two weeks I still haven't got it back some people actually thinks this is my real voice. I took so many pills and I have been drinking NyQuil which only makes me sleep more but hopefully I get better soon.

Making A Decision (Free Choice )
This has been a very very very long road but its all finally over. It was extremely hard for me to pick a decision on where to go to school , but I finally picked Buffalo State College. I was debating between SUNY Plattsburgh and Buffalo State , they are both great schools. SUNY Plattsburgh was a very beautiful school the campus is beautiful , the classes are nice, the people seem nice,it was extremely far 6 hours away, the EOP admission director who interviewed me was very persuasive, calm , caring , and educated which is what made the school so attracted to me. SUNY Plattsburgh is a wonderful school who also gave me a great package however Buffalo State College just had better options for me, activities, and they were more a Biology major school. As an EOP student I was able to afford the deposit and I have other priorities I am required to do that is mandatory such as attending the Summer Institute. I am so happy that everything is over with college process and I am relieved and I am excited to attend Buffalo State College. I am looking foward to making new friends , passing ALL my classes with a high grade so I can get a 4.0 average by the end of the semester , I want to be on the Deans List , and I want to join a sorority. I want to become successful and enjoy the college experience.

CRR ( Traditions )
When reading Taming Of the Shrew I connected to many things. There were many actions and traditions that are similar to the culture in Africa. As a girl , women, young lady , or teenager , all women are treated equal and are dependable towards cooking , raising the family , and most importantly respecting their husbands. Which is quite similar to the culture in Taming Of The Shrew where Bianca fit perfect into women's role in society. Another thing I can relate to is how Katherine was forced to marry Petruchio even without her approval , in Africa young teenagers are often forced to marry at a young age either to protect the family , or to not deny it because of the respect they have for their father that they cannot say no to embarrass him.The way Katherine became at the end , when she was tamed reminds me of how the young girls that are forced to getting married become while their in their marriage , its more like a dictatorship rather than a companionship.

The Taming Of the Shrew (CRR)
The taming of the shrew is a good book that defines how do society and culture defines a person. We all know the main characters Katherine, Bianca , Baptista , Lucentio and Petruchio are the main focus in this book. In this book we observed and visualized the different roles of woman in society. Women are nothing without men , women are suppose to stay home and take care of the kids, be soft spoken , and uneducated. However Katherine was a woman that went against all these stereotypes and started to believe that she can be anything she wants , say what she wants , how she wants, and where ever she wants. Bianca is the woman who "fits" in society because she goes by the rules society is told them to. During the Socratic seminar I was comparing then and now , the future, past and the present. I concluded during the seminar , that history really reflects on the future today , I believe that no matter how successful women become in society they will always be below men just because that's how it used to be. I do believe there is a difference between gender and sex but there are also a limitations that classify why woman aren't that successful in that certain type of area. I believe men and women will always be compared to each other its just a natural thing to do , its is like the test to show if we are strong enough to prove our point or not. Living in this kind of society encourages me to do best so that I can prove something to improve hope on women being successful.

Pregnancy ( Free Choice )
Pregnancy is a major step in life . It is the time period where a woman is carrying another life inside of her. Pregnancy is when a lady starts growing , living and eat for two. In my religion and culture pregnancy is taken very seriously. For instance , you are not to have a kid before getting married or that child that you have would be considered a "bastard" a "sin". In this culture woman are often viewed as housewives and have weaker voices compared to men. In the religion Islam , men are superior to woman which is why they take the lead in many things such as when we pray , when they have a family the men are usually the ones in charge according to todays society. Pregnancy also is another way of increasing population. Through pregnancy we are able to know the face of the baby , classify its step in your gender , and hear the baby heart beat or kick. I believe pregnancy is an example of how women are sometimes superior more than men. Pregnancy also bring a lot of responsibility , maturity , and it comes with an open mind since you are moving to a bigger step in your life that would either break you or make you.

Economics (ID)
Every senior class takes economics with Ms.Horne . In Economic class we learned about Convict Leason. I learned about the different ways they try to bring slavery but with a different version and way. They created jails and all the prisoners were all black while the people they owe were their security and officers , who told them what to do and used many words that were very offensive . They created prisons and put prisoners in their so they can pay up the debt . They were being treated slaves that get only a little bit of pay each day so they can stay longer to do labor . These men were really treated poorly and was not able to speak for themselves because it was like they were being enslaved all over again. Rascism is still being practiced today in society , the most racist organization Ku Klux Klan are still the in the majority the reason why many African Americans were scared to even sleep at night time. What creates this story even more scarier because many professionals are apart of this organization like doctors , police officers , and many other people who are rich and famous are involved of being in the actor racism.

The College Process ( Free Choice )
Have you ever wondered would it would be like to become a senior ? As a junior , I was so excited to become a senior not only because of the activities we get but because it was my last year Thurgood Marshall Academy and I always wanted it to happen. Ive been in this school for 6 yearsss including the summer of when i graduated 6th grade. I have made ALOT of friends and I have ALOT of history in the walls of TMA. When Mr.Blair told us we are going to be the Class of 2014 in 2008 I never thought it would happen so soon. When I graduated middle school into high school I thought about the different opportunities I will have if I remain to do good in all my classes. Now that I am graduating High school I am thinking about all of the things I wouldve done better and how much I regret from my high school experience. As I am ,i doing the college applications , essays , supplemants I just reminisce the times I thought it was too hard for me and it just encourages me more to keep doing good. My problem is I couldve done better. The College process is an everlasting , intimidating, nervous, LONG , and anxious road to success or failure. For the most part its an easy process until ypu actually have to keep checking your emails to figure out if you have missing information, you have to ANNOY the colleges , create a plan on whats your next stop or plan , and the worst of them all is picking 1 school out of so many !! The College process is VERY STRESSFUL but it will only benfit you in the future.

Summer Time ( PB)
Flowers blooming , sun shining , ice cream truck music playing , people walking around , boys playing basketball at the park , birds chirping , butterflies flying , picnics at the park , kids riding bikes , scooter , and skateboards , these are the things that I visualize the summertime. Summertime is the best season of the year because you are free and happy because for one reason no schools are open its vacation time. This is the time you are able to spend with your loved ones , you don't have to worry about waking up late for school or missing a project assignment because school is over , well at least for me because I have never been to summer school my whole entire life. Summertime is when you can dress girly and enjoy the weather rather then in the winter time where your always bundled up and cold all the time wishing you were indoors. Summertime is when you are able to walk around looking cute instead of worrying about if its going to rain like the way it would rain during spring. During the summer , you are able to walk around with a tank top rather than the fall where leaves are always falling preparing for the winter where its cold again. I just love the summer time , its a time to relax and just enjoy and plan your future.

Congratualitons ( Free Choice )
I woke up in the more to an email from Mr.McBride stating that a college will come see us today but didn't really took it as a priority to go see who was visiting. I just came to school and went to my all my classes up until third period where I found out that my class ( Leadership ) was told to report to the college office , again I just ignored it and just went to Spooner's office to print out my back ground , then Divine tells us " Saint Peters is doing an on site admissions , all you have to do is get an interview, and bring your transcript , SAT scores". Me & the rest of the people in the room who didn't really took it that serious then just went straight down to the college office and got prepared for the interview. I was so nervous because I have never been interviewed from a College admission person before and this would be the first time for me . In my head all i thought about was " What if he says my hair is too wild ?" , "What if I don't get accepted & I get wait listed?" , " What if I talk too much?" , I guess being nervous is what helped me keep thinking about the different situations and mistakes I made in my life which expressed myself better and replied to the admission person who said " Tell me about yourself " , through all of this I gained an 18,000 scholarship and became accepted to Saint Peters University .

Research Class ( ID )
In my science class, there are only a few people that were
chosen to be in that class, which is also similar to the Leadership Class
because it is filled with the people I was Honors Chemistry with. In Science
Research we were all given the opportunity to pick a topic on anything we want
to research on, and at first I did not know what to Research on but then
because of my culture I was able to connect and finally come up with a
hypotheses. Growing up in an African household opens my curiosity in many things
because usually when something is hurting, families believe in faith or
religious ideas, stating "God will make you healthy, you just have to be
patient and have faith". I first experienced menstrual cycle in 7th grade
where I thought I wasn't normal. I thought I had a disease, but that was just a
phase, where I soon started getting cramps the next month. I wanted to ask my
dad why do I receive this, but he is going to say "inshallah you'll feel
better”; however the every month the same pain occurred. One day I went jogging
with my brother and did push ups my cramps weren't as bad as before. Because of
this experience I concluded that if a person is more physically active then
their cramps would last for shorter amount of days. I enjoy being in Science
research because I am able to take control in what I am researching on and I am
doing something that I am interested in. As the school year proceed I hope to
see if my hypothesis was correct.

Testing (CCR)
In the United States of America, everything is based on a test. To move on to the next level of education , you have to take a test , which I think is highly unfair because some people are horrible test takers. From 3rd to 8th grade you have to take the Citywide test , where you have to pass both the reading and math test with at least a 2 , 4 being the highest. When in High school , you have to take Regents , in order to receive a high school diploma you must have passed 5 regents including Algebra, English , Global , US History, and Living Environment. In order to get into certain colleges , you have to take The SAT's or ACT's , which is a time standardized test that test how "smart" and "challenged" the highest being 2400. If your becoming a doctor you have to take boards in order to practice medicine , you have to take the mCATs to get into medical school. Everywhere you go and everything you are aiming to accomplish , you have to take a test in order to maintain that accomplishment. I believe that it shouldn't be like that , the purpose of the testing is to see what you learn and to see if you can practice it correctly , but a lot of things may happen when you are nervous, you can blank out as soon as you get the test , and sometimes after all of the studying you begin to stress and give up.
